The Biolands is a rich and complex world, with vast territories, intricate politics, and unique ways of life.
Here’s what is known so far…
-
In the world of the Biolands, four distinct regions shape the land: the Northern Abyss, the Blister Dominion, Atlas Mountain, and the Biolands themselves.
The Northern Abyss
Cascadia sits in the frozen expanse of the Northern Abyss, with miles of ocean separating it from the other regions. The coastline is miles away, but despite its isolation, Cascadia remains a haven of translucent cryo machinery and sleek, icy landscapes. The harsh northern realm challenges its inhabitants, requiring genetic modifications known as 'TERRAMODS' to adapt to the extreme cold. These modifications grant reptilian-like features, enabling them to thrive in the icy abyss. The Blister Dominion
Onyx Industrial rises from the arid wasteland of the Blister Dominion desert. Here, the terrain is harsh and unforgiving, with no vegetation or water to be found. The blistering sands border the Bloodbind territory, reinforcing the stark contrast between the industrial structures of Onyx and the surrounding emptiness. The Industrialists have adapted with diesel hydraulic mods, mechanizing themselves to endure the conditions. They require less food and are capable of lifting heavy loads, making them uniquely suited for the desert's challenges.Atlas Mountain
Atlas Peak soars high on the tallest mountain, known as Atlas Mountain, characterized by a rocky terrain that nearly reaches the skies. The region’s decopunk architecture blends seamlessly into the rugged landscape, with celestial evolution and sunlight synthesis becoming integral to life here. The enhancement of lung modifications facilitate survival in this lofty, otherworldly environment. Beneath Atlas Peak lies a dark, mossy terrain shrouded in clouds, presenting a stark contrast to the ethereal beauty above. The Biolands
The Biolands, home to most Naturalist tribes, encompasses a diverse range of geography. From sprawling deserts and winding rivers to intricate cave systems, towering mountain ranges, lush jungles, mist-shrouded swamps, iridescent forests, and cascading waterfalls, its varied landscapes offer a glimpse into an otherworldly wilderness shaped by the enigmatic Bloom.Mapping the Biolands is a constant challenge due to the Bloom’s relentless reshaping of the landscape. Cities have been buried, mega flora grows past the clouds, and lakes change colors due to mineral shifts. In the Red Desert, pink and white sands host bloom-altered scorpions and other life forms. Charting this new world remains an ongoing effort, and legends persist of regions where the Bloom twists time and space. Most of the Biolands remain uncharted since the Bloom. Even the Naturalists are wary of venturing into the deepest parts, where the Bloom's influence is strongest and undiscovered strains and hybrids lurk.

DIVE DEEPER INTO THE HISTORY OF THE BIOLANDS...
PART I : BASTION OUTPOST
The Bloom, a central and enigmatic force in the Biolands, catalyzed a dramatic transformation of Earth. It's a mysterious and potent entity, responsible for a sweeping explosion of life, dramatically altering the planet's environment. The Bloom's influence extended to both flora and fauna, giving rise to unprecedented species of plants and creatures. It gradually encompassed the Earth, reshaping everything in its path into an organic, plant-like world. This transformation by Bloom was neither rapid nor immediate, but it was relentless and overpowering. Traditional human strategies to curb its spread proved futile, likening the Bloom to a disease without a cure. It was perceived differently by various people – some as a manifestation of extraterrestrial life, others as a divine act, a virus, or the Earth's way of reclaiming itself. Regardless of these interpretations, the Bloom unequivocally signified the end of an old world and the dawn of a new, uncharted era.
As it continued to assimilate the Earth, humanity was forced to abandon their homes and even their digital repositories of history, leading to the loss of archived knowledge.
In response to the unstoppable advance of the Bloom, the remainder of humanity united to establish their sole coalition: The Bastion Outpost. This alliance, formed out of sheer necessity, dedicated itself to the formidable task of combating the Bloom's encroachment. Over several decades, the Bastion Outpost valiantly strived to push back the relentless tide of the Bloom. Despite their efforts, success was fleeting, and they were frequently compelled to retreat and relocate, as the Bloom inexorably claimed more of the planet.
Ultimately, the Bloom pervaded nearly every corner of the Earth, rendering the old world a distant memory, irretrievably lost under its rampant growth.
Driven to desperation in their final stand, humanity resorted to a drastic measure: a nuclear onslaught against the Bloom. Converging their remaining nuclear arsenal from the bygone era, they targeted a region densely overrun by the Bloom, believing it to be the epicenter of this ecological upheaval. This bold and risky strategy represented humanity's ultimate effort to reclaim their world from the pervasive grip of the Bloom.
The nuclear strike unleashed by humanity on the Bloom wrought devastating consequences. The targeted area was left barren, a desolate wasteland where the Bloom's regenerative capabilities were significantly impaired. This scorched territory, where the Bloom's once-unstoppable growth was halted, came to be known as THE RED DESERT.
Intriguingly, the Bloom demonstrated an unexpected adaptability; it evolved a defense against nuclear weaponry, ensuring that such an attack would not threaten it again. Although the Bloom could no longer reestablish itself in the Red Desert, it continued its expansion elsewhere unabated. This showed the resilience and intelligence of the Bloom, which left the humans with much to think about.
This was a great realization within the Bastion Outpost of the Blooms power and despair continued to grow. As the Bloom's relentless expansion continued, debates raged about the best course of action. Differing ideologies and strategies for dealing with the Bloom led to deep divisions within the outpost. This ideological rift soon escalated into a struggle for control and governance, as members of the Bastion Outpost grappled with their dire circumstances.
The situation deteriorated further into mutiny and chaos, giving way to a civil war within the Bastion Outpost. This internal conflict weakened their united front, exacerbating the peril they already faced from the Bloom. As the outpost succumbed to its internal strife, the last bastion of human resistance against the Bloom's inexorable advance began to crumble.
The civil war and realization of the consequences of using nuclear weapons against the Bloom led to the emergence of three distinct factions within the Bastion Outpost, each advocating for a different approach to the new world order shaped by the Bloom.
The first group viewed the Bloom unequivocally as a malevolent virus, an existential threat to humanity's survival and dominance on Earth. This faction insisted on continuing the fight against the Bloom, advocating for aggressive measures to reclaim the planet. They believed in humanity's resilience and right to resist and overcome this unprecedented challenge.
The second faction perceived the Bloom in a radically different light. To them, the Bloom represented the threat of a superior form, one that had adapted remarkably to the Earth's changing environment. This group saw the dawn of a new era where humans should adapt in turn, accepting the end of the age of man and evolving towards a new superior race. They argued that humanity needed to transcend its current form and become the new dominant life form if it were to survive.
Finally, the third group was deeply moved by the devastation wrought in the Red Desert. Witnessing the extensive loss of life and environmental damage, they advocated for a more harmonious and respectful approach to the Bloom. This faction sought to find a way to coexist with the Bloom, proposing to study and understand it, and live in a world where humanity and the Bloom could coexist without conflict. They sought a balance, aiming to protect what remained of human civilization while acknowledging the profound changes the Bloom had brought to the Earth.
As the old world's resources dwindled and tensions escalated, the three ideologically distinct factions within the Bastion Outpost were compelled to split, each seeking refuge in areas best suited to their beliefs and strategies for survival.
The first group, staunchly opposed to the Bloom, chose to inhabit the Red Desert—the very area they had created through nuclear devastation. This harsh, lifeless landscape, now devoid of the Bloom's influence, became their stronghold. They saw the Red Desert as a symbol of resistance, a place where they could live far from the Bloom's reach and continue their fight against it.
The second faction, those who embraced the notion of a new superior life form and the need for human adaptation, settled in the jagged terrain of the Atlas Mountains. Here, in this stony and cold environment, the Bloom's presence was less pervasive. The rugged landscape provided a natural barrier, allowing them to adapt and potentially evolve in the face of the Bloom's influence.
The third group, the peacemakers, journeyed far north to the seas. They sought a harmonious existence, minimizing their impact on the Bloom while maintaining a safe distance from its grasp. They believed that in the remote and vast expanses of the northern seas, they could achieve a delicate balance—living safely away from the Bloom, while also ensuring that their presence did not further provoke its spread. This faction sought to study and understand the Bloom, hoping to find a way to coexist with this transformative force without contributing to the destruction of either the Bloom or what remained of humanity.
Each faction, in its quest for survival and a way to navigate the new world shaped by the Bloom, embarked on a distinct path, reflecting the diverse responses of humanity to a planet irrevocably changed.
PART II : THE FACTIONS
ONYX INDUSTRIAL
The aftermath of the nuclear bombardment brought an unexpected twist to the struggle against the Bloom. The explosion had gouged a massive crater into the Earth, revealing a previously unknown and extraordinarily potent element: Apex Metal. This discovery marked a significant turning point in humanity's ongoing battle with the Bloom. In the shadow of this revelation, a new entity emerged – Onyx Industrial. Recognizing the potential of Apex Metal, Onyx Industrial quickly established itself as a formidable force. They declared an arms race against the Bloom, fueled by the belief that Apex Metal was the key to humanity's reclaiming of its lost dominance over the planet. Apex Metal, with its unique properties and strength, was seen as a beacon of hope, a tool that could potentially turn the tide against the Bloom.
Onyx Industrial rapidly fortified their position, dedicating their resources to the excavation and utilization of Apex Metal. They initiated extensive mining operations, delving deeper into the earth to uncover more of this valuable resource. The goal was clear: harness the power of Apex Metal to develop homes, weapons, and defenses capable of combating the Bloom's overwhelming force. This shift in strategy signaled a new chapter in humanity's fight for survival.
As the years unfolded, the relentless expansion of the Bloom continued to alter the landscape and impact life in unforeseen ways. Onyx Industrial, in their fortified stronghold near the Red Desert, had relied on a water reserve located on its outskirts for their essential water supply. Unbeknownst to them, the insidious reach of the Bloom extended even here, contaminating the water source.
The people of Onyx Industrial, consuming this tainted water, began to fall ill. A mysterious disease, borne from the Bloom-infected waters, spread rapidly among them. Panic and fear took hold within the community, leading to a drastic and inhumane decision. In a bid to protect the rest of their society, Onyx Industrial's leaders chose to ostracize those afflicted by the disease as an attempt to stop its spread. They were forcefully removed from the community and confined within a nearby cave system. The entrance to this cave was sealed with stone, trapping the sick individuals inside, deemed contaminated and beyond redemption… they were left to die.
Isolated and forsaken, these outcasts underwent a harrowing transformation over the centuries. In the dark, confined space of the cave, they not only survived but also multiplied, their bodies and beings mutating under the influence of the disease and their new, harsh environment. This process of mutation eventually gave rise to a new species altogether, known as the Bloodbind.
As the challenges of survival intensified in a world dominated by the Bloom, Onyx Industrial, armed with their discovery of Apex Metal, sought strategic alliances to bolster their position. This quest for collaboration led them to Cascadia, a faction that had successfully adapted to the new world order.
Cascadia, unlike Onyx Industrial, had managed to create a stable living environment free from the Bloom's influence. They had developed methods to purify water, making it safe from the Bloom's contamination. This capability made Cascadia an invaluable ally for Onyx Industrial, whose own water sources had been compromised by the Bloom.
A mutually beneficial trade deal was struck between the two factions. Onyx Industrial agreed to supply Cascadia with Apex Metal, a resource of immense value for the construction and fortification of their homes and infrastructure. In return, Cascadia would provide Onyx Industrial with a steady supply of Bloom-free purified water, essential for the survival of Onyx Industrial’s people.
This trade agreement represented a significant development in the post-Bloom world. It marked a shift towards cooperation and interdependence among human factions, each leveraging their unique strengths and resources for mutual benefit. This deal not only ensured the survival of Onyx Industrial by securing a vital resource – clean water – but also facilitated the continued development and growth of Cascadia, bolstered by the advanced properties of Apex Metal.
ATLAS PEAK
The inhabitants of Atlas Mountains, driven by a desire to escape the pervasive influence of the Bloom, believed their salvation lay in the peaks above. The rugged, vegetation-sparse terrain of the Atlas Mountains seemed an ideal refuge, providing a natural barrier against the Bloom's mutations. Their ambition extended beyond mere survival; they aspired to ascend even higher, creating a haven in the skies, far from the Bloom's reach.Years after forging a trade treaty with Onyx Industrial, following ongoing conflicts, the people of Atlas embarked on an ambitious project to build their path to these envisioned sky havens. This monumental task united everyone on the mountain, each contributing to the construction of this aerial sanctuary. However, upon its completion, the unity that had held them together fractured. A mutiny ensued, toppling the leadership that had guided them through the construction and their struggles against Onyx.
In the aftermath of this upheaval, a new regime took power, one with a more elitist and exclusionary ideology. They argued that only those deemed elite, intellectually superior, and genetically optimal should have the privilege of ascending to the sky haven. As a result, the path to the haven was sealed, and many were left behind, deemed unworthy by the new leadership.
Over the ensuing centuries, tales and rumors emerged about the fate of those abandoned on the mountain. It was speculated that they evolved into a unique hybrid species, known as the Reachers. These beings were described as humanoid, yet plant-like, rooted to the ground, their arms eternally stretching upwards, yearning for the sunlight that eluded them below the cloud-covered peaks.
Meanwhile, above the clouds, the sky haven of Atlas Peak flourished. Bathed in sunlight and vibrant with color and life, it was a stark contrast to the dark, cold, and deprived world below. This stark dichotomy became a poignant metaphor for Atlas Peak itself: a society that, while seemingly utopian in its upper reaches, was underpinned by a grim reality of segregation and abandonment. The very ethos of Atlas Peak, radiant and pure above but shadowed and forgotten below, mirrored the complexity and moral dilemmas faced in this post-Bloom world. In the elevated sanctuary of Atlas Peak, the elites who ascended during the mutiny embraced their newfound status with zeal. They thrived in their skyward haven, far removed from the struggles of the world below. However, beneath this facade of unity and prosperity, discontent simmered. Not all were aligned with the usurper's regime or his vision for Atlas Peak.
The usurper, having seized power, declared himself the sovereign ruler of Atlas Peak. He established a dynastic rule, ensuring that his bloodline would perpetuate their control over the haven. This establishment of a royal family marked a significant shift in the governance and ideology of Atlas Peak, creating a rigid hierarchy based on lineage and perceived superiority.
Yet, allegiance to this new royal lineage was not universal. There were those within Atlas Peak who remained loyal to the original leader, silently opposing the usurper's reign. Others harbored ambitions of their own, discontent with the current rule and yearning for power. These underlying tensions created a complex web of loyalties and rivalries within the elite society of Atlas Peak.
Centuries passed, and the royal family established by the usurper continued to rule Atlas Peak. Their reign endured through the ages, a constant presence in the ever-evolving narrative of the post-Bloom world. However, the longevity of their rule did not erase the undercurrents of dissent and the longing for change among certain segments of the populace. The history of Atlas Peak, while outwardly a tale of triumph and ascendancy, was also marked by internal strife, veiled opposition, and the persistent question of legitimate leadership and moral governance in a world profoundly altered by the Bloom.
Atlas Peak is also home to the Solar Crystals, which are harvested to secure a potent and reliable energy source.
CASCADIA
The Cascadians, having chosen a path of peace and democracy, established their first settlement along the ocean's cliffs. Governed by democratically elected leaders, they sought to forge a life of harmony and coexistence in the face of a world transformed by the Bloom. Despite their peaceful intentions, the challenges posed by the Bloom's omnipresence and the ongoing war between Atlas Peak and Onyx Industrial loomed as constant threats to their stability. The discovery of Apex Metal by Onyx Industrial reached the ears of the Cascadians. Recognizing the potential for a more harmonious world, they saw an opportunity to shift the dynamics of the fractured human factions. The Cascadians, aware of their vulnerability to the Bloom and the necessity of collaboration for survival, embarked on an ambitious plan to unite the divided factions.
Leveraging their ingenuity, the brightest minds of Cascadia developed a method to purify ocean water, rendering it completely free from the Bloom's influence. This technological breakthrough was a game-changer, offering a vital resource in a world where clean water was scarce.
With this achievement in hand, the Cascadians convened a council, known as the Parliament, inviting representatives from all three factions - Atlas Peak, Onyx Industrial, and their own Cascadian society. They proposed a peace treaty anchored in mutual trade and interdependence. The treaty outlined that each faction had critical resources the others needed for survival, making collaboration not just beneficial, but necessary.
The factions, recognizing the pragmatic value of this proposal, agreed to the terms of the treaty. A network of trade was established, with Apex Metal, Bloom-free water, Solar Crystals, and other essential resources flowing between the factions, fostering a period of relative stability and cooperation.
Empowered by the trade of Apex Metal, the Cascadians expanded their reach further north, venturing into the uncharted territories of the Northern Abyss. Here, they established new cities, further distancing themselves from the Bloom's influence. Over the centuries, as these cities flourished and the immediate threats of the Bloom receded, the tales of the Bloom's conquest and the struggles that followed became distant legends. The world, once riven by the Bloom's chaos, found a semblance of balance and coexistence, ushering in a new era of human civilization reshaped by the lessons of the past.
THE NATURALISTS
The origins of the Naturalists, a distinct group in the post-Bloom world, remained shrouded in mystery. Their emergence was a subject of speculation and intrigue among the other factions, with various theories proposed about their genesis. Some believed that the Naturalists were a direct result of the Bloom's transformative influence on Earth. According to this view, the Bloom, with its unparalleled ability to alter the environment and living organisms, had given rise to the Naturalists. They were seen as a manifestation of the Bloom's power, a new form of life that had evolved in tandem with the changing world.
Another prevalent theory suggested that the Naturalists were descendants of the pre-Bloom human population, who had undergone a drastic adaptation process. This perspective posited that in the face of the Bloom's overwhelming spread, a segment of humanity had evolved, either through natural selection or deliberate adaptation, to coexist with the new conditions on Earth. These humans, changing over generations, had become the Naturalists, a group uniquely attuned to the post-Bloom world.
Regardless of their true origin, the Naturalists represented a significant and mysterious element of the post-Bloom ecosystem. They embodied the profound changes the world had undergone and highlighted the diverse ways life on Earth had adapted to the challenges posed by the Bloom. The Naturalists, whether born of the Bloom or as a result of human evolution, were a testament to the resilience and adaptability of life in the face of monumental environmental shifts.

Their directional sound weapons and ultrasonic armor offer unparalleled defense, but the reliance on AI mind integration and light-bending invisibility often isolates them from the other factions.
Naturalists
In the lush, ever-evolving landscape of the Biolands, the Naturalists have had centuries of evolution that enables them to be one with the Bloom. Some tribes bio-enhanced camouflage allows them to blend seamlessly with their surroundings, while organic constructs grow into self-healing buildings and tools that mirror the ecosystem. Some tribes have developed genetic communication links with flora and fauna, enabling them to communicate with nature itself. The Naturalists' mastery of herbal and Bloom-based medicines makes them formidable healers, while their ability to manipulate Bloom strains enhances their physical abilities. Despite their technological sophistication, they remain deeply connected to the natural world, revering the Bloom as both a gift and a challenge.
Yet, not all Naturalists share the same view of technology. Some tribes embrace the Bloom fully, wielding it as a tool for defense and sustainability, while others, like the Ganorak, seek to destroy everything synthetic. Their distrust of advanced technology often pits them against factions like Onyx Industrial and Atlas Peak, but their symbiotic relationship with the Bloom offers them unique defensive and adaptive capabilities.
-
In the Biolands, English serves as the common language among Atlas Peak, Cascadia, and Onyx Industrial, allowing these factions to share a unified framework for communication, technology, and education. The Naturalists, however, have their own language, known as “the Naturalist Tongue” by outsiders. It consists of multiple dialects, each unique to different tribes and reflecting their connection to the various ecological niches in the Biolands.
While Cascadia appreciates multilingualism, particularly as a tool for engaging with the Naturalists in trade and diplomacy, Atlas Peak and Onyx Industrial are less concerned about preserving minority languages. The Naturalists, however, view their linguistic diversity as vital to their cultural identity and ecological knowledge, actively preserving it through education programs for their youth and cultural exchanges with Cascadia. Despite these efforts, certain dialects are at risk due to genocide or the younger generations adopting English for practicality.
Each Naturalist tribe manages its linguistic affairs internally, with elders overseeing teaching and translation services to bridge the gap between English-speaking factions and the Naturalist Tongue. This linguistic divide often complicates diplomatic and trade interactions, necessitating skilled translators. The Naturalist Tongue is notable for its tonal complexity and incorporation of environmental sounds, making it challenging for non-native speakers.
In the English-speaking factions, new terminology arises from technological advancements and is standardized through academic channels. In contrast, the Naturalists derive new words organically from nature and ecological changes, evolving through oral tradition. For the Naturalists, language serves as a strong marker of identity. Bilingual speakers in the Biolands are essential.

Atlas Peak
Atop the towering Atlas Mountain, families are bound by blood and driven by intellect. Here, the eldest member often holds authority, guiding the lineage toward technological and scientific contributions that bolster the faction’s prestige. The concept of family is steeped in tradition and class, where royal families and intellectual merit secure societal status. Healthy family dynamics thrive on intellectual support and encouragement, yet dysfunction arises from the fierce competitive pressures ingrained in Atlas Peak’s elitist culture.Traditions revolve around academic achievements and technological milestones, reinforcing the pursuit of excellence. Orphans are absorbed into educational programs, their aptitudes channeled to best serve the faction's intellectual ethos. Independence is achieved not by age but by significant scientific or academic contribution.
However, technology’s influence on familial dynamics brings ethical dilemmas. The use of life extension technologies and cognitive enhancements challenges the natural progression of life and inheritance. Despite their disdain for gender and racial biases, intellectual merit often dictates relationships, creating a culture where familial ties are sometimes overshadowed by ambition.
Onyx Industrial
In the desolate expanse of the Blister Dominion, families are defined not just by blood but also by military allegiance. The most skilled survivalists lead their kin, ensuring each member contributes to mining, crafting, and fortifying the faction's defenses. Cohesion and mutual support are paramount, but dysfunction can seep in when survival pressures fracture family bonds.Customs and traditions emphasize resourcefulness and resilience, with rites of passage like surviving a night in the desert marking adulthood. Orphans find their place in the military, where they forge new familial ties in their platoons. Independence is earned once individuals can fully shoulder the community’s workload, marking a stark contrast to the intellectual rites of Atlas Peak.
Yet, the harsh environment often forces families to make grim choices about resource allocation, prioritizing survival over sentimentality. Despite this, Onyx families romanticize the old world, treasuring tales of campfires and simpler times. Traditional roles may prevail, but flexibility is a necessity in this unforgiving landscape.
Cascadia
In the frosty embrace of the Northern Abyss, Cascadia’s concept of family extends beyond bloodlines to include community members sharing ecological responsibilities. Roles are fluid, adapting to the ever-changing demands of ecological stewardship and education. Authority often rotates based on expertise, fostering a collaborative spirit that contrasts sharply with Atlas Peak’s rigid hierarchy.Customs are tied to ecological events and cycles, emphasizing sustainable living. Orphans are embraced into other families or communal arrangements, ensuring no one is left behind. Leaving the family is less about age and more about readiness to contribute independently to ecological balance.
A healthy family dynamic is marked by open communication and shared ecological responsibility. Dysfunction, however, can arise from neglecting communal duties. Genetic modifications have enabled adaptation to the Bloom, but they also pose questions about the impact on family lineage and natural evolution. Cascadia strives for gender and racial equality, reflecting their democratic values and ecological ideals.
Naturalists
Deep within the Biolands, the Naturalists embrace family as an all-encompassing concept. Every tribe member is considered kin, bound by deep spiritual ties to each other and the natural world. Elders wield authority, revered for their wisdom and ecological knowledge. Responsibilities center around preserving natural lore and maintaining ecological balance, with harmony and respect for nature defining a healthy family dynamic.Traditions are rooted in the rhythms and changes of the environment, shaping rituals that honor the spirits of earth and sea. Orphans are collectively cared for, seamlessly integrated into the communal fabric of the tribe. Age is less significant than one’s ability to contribute to the tribe’s welfare.
However, the Naturalists face ethical dilemmas in balancing tradition with adaptation to changing environmental conditions. Some tribes believe in destroying everything synthetic, while others coexist peacefully with the Bloom’s beauty. Minimal discrimination exists based on gender or race, as diversity is seen as an ecological strength that enriches the tribe.
In this delicate ecosystem of family dynamics, each faction upholds its unique concept of kinship, contributing to the cohesion and stability of the Biolands while navigating the ethical and moral dilemmas that arise from a world reshaped by the Bloom.

Some Cascadians conduct rituals to honor the sea's nurturing yet fierce nature, but that is not everyone's belief as Cascadians put most of their trust in AI. Their ecological stewardship is a form of spiritual duty, promoting sustainable living while discouraging exploitation of natural resources.Onyx Industrial
The desert people of Onyx Industrial hold diverse beliefs, reflecting the varied religious influences of their inhabitants. There are no sacred sites in Onyx Industrial, but traditional human religions coexist with new survivalist faiths that emphasize sacrifice, resilience, and the eradication of the Bloom. Atheism is also widespread, and this melting pot of beliefs often leads to arguments among the people of Onyx. Despite their differences, Onyx remains united by a shared determination to protect their enclave from the Bloom, an entity they view as a viral plague threatening to consume the world. Sacrifice and devotion to survival efforts mark spiritual promotion, while betrayal or cowardice can lead to exile.Naturalists
For the Naturalists, the Bloom is not just a phenomenon but a god-like entity that permeates every aspect of their lives. They revere it as the ultimate force guiding their world, shaping their culture and spiritual practices around rituals that honor and maintain harmony with the Bloom. Deep in the jungles, wetlands, and mountains of the Biolands, sacred clearings and natural formations serve as sanctuaries where the Naturalists conduct offerings, chants, and ceremonies to commune with their deity. The Naturalists believe that the Bloom brings life, transformation, and wisdom to those who understand its ways, seeing it as a divine force that guides them toward a greater spiritual awakening. Different denominations may exist depending on the tribe and their relationship with the Bloom.Coexistence and Conflict
While the diverse factions hold distinct beliefs, their interactions are marked by both peaceful coexistence and simmering conflict. Cascadia promotes peaceful coexistence through diplomacy and ecological stewardship, maintaining amicable relations with the Naturalists. Music, paintings, fashion, plays, and mixing different Bloom strains into vibrant pigments and patterns are all forms of expression that bring tribes together. Ceremonies and tavern-like gatherings celebrate these artistic traditions, with plays and musical performances enjoyed in sacred groves and moonlit clearings. The more human Naturalists host fun ceremonies, where fashion and storytelling blend seamlessly. Inspiration often comes from the natural world, and no subjects are off-limits, making the Naturalists' art a reflection of their reverence for the environment and their deep spiritual connection with the Bloom. -
In the Biolands, communication is a challenging endeavor. English serves as the main language between Atlas Peak, Onyx Industrial, and Cascadia, facilitating diplomacy and trade among the technologically advanced factions. However, the most widely spoken language is the Naturalist Tongue, a complex language with multiple dialects varying by tribe. Each dialect is influenced by the environment and cultural practices, making it mysterious to outsiders.
Despite this linguistic richness, the Bloom disrupts radio signals, making direct communication between havens impossible. Couriers must travel long distances to deliver messages in person, leading to misunderstandings and propaganda.
The Naturalists have the best communication system due to their telepathic-like connection through the Biolands. While not all are literate, their oral traditions and spiritual bonds keep their tribes closely connected. Within the technological havens, literacy is universal, but encrypted networks often fall prey to the Bloom’s interference.
Messages between havens can take weeks or even months, but within each faction, communication is often instantaneous. When members of different factions meet, a slight bow is customary, while among the Naturalists, a handshake or hug symbolizes their close connection.
-
In the Biolands, Atlas Peak controls the skies with aircraft, Onyx Industrial dominates the ground with diesel-powered vehicles, and Cascadia rules the waters with ships. The Naturalists navigate the dense jungles and wild terrain on foot, by animal, or in wooden canoes & ships. However, the Bloom's interference scrambles GPS signals, forcing travelers to rely on maps and natural landmarks. Access to transport is uneven, with Atlas's elite soaring above in private craft, while Onyx’s military vehicles are reserved for soldiers. Cascadia prioritizes scientists and politicians, and the Naturalists travel communally.
Cross-faction travel remains dangerous due to political tensions and ecological barriers, while the safest routes lie within the havens. Each faction tightly controls its networks, charging fees or requiring clearance. Medical professionals train in faction-specific facilities: Atlas's Sky Forge, Cascadia's Nexus, Onyx's Ironworks, and the Naturalists' tribal elders. Each curriculum reflects the faction's focus, from Atlas's high-tech research to the Naturalists' herbal traditions. The last major public healthcare crisis was the Bloom outbreak itself, which devastated populations and reshaped the world. Healthcare remains scarce due to the Bloom's pervasive influence, factional isolation, and resource limitations, making it difficult for individuals to receive consistent treatment.
There are countless herbal remedies hidden within the flora and fauna of the Biolands, waiting to be extracted and utilized by those with the knowledge to do so.
-
In Atlas Peak, the royal and noble families control the narrative to maintain their grip on power, often altering stories to reinforce their image as the most elite in all the Biolands, nearly godlike to those below. Backstabbing and manipulation are commonplace as individuals vie for higher status. They promote genetic alterations to advance their agenda, though dissenters argue that some modifications go too far. Propaganda here reinforces the idea of technological superiority while masking the ruthless politicking beneath.
Onyx Industrial views the Bloom and Naturalists as diseases that must be eradicated, with propaganda constantly painting them as bacteria threatening humanity. Glorified stories of the old world, often exaggerated, fuel their inhabitants with inspiration. The promise of a Bloom-free world serves as their beacon, driving them to push forward. This relentless pursuit of survivalism and nostalgia for the pre-Bloom era keeps their society united and determined.
Cascadia preaches peace as its central mission, but this peace means different things to different citizens, leading some to take it upon themselves to enforce it in their own ways. Speculation often arises about the true meaning of peace in Cascadia, and propaganda encourages reliance on AI companions, sometimes at the expense of human relationships. This dependence on companions fosters mistrust among humans and leads to a society overly reliant on artificial support.
Naturalist tribes have varying relationships with the Bloom, with some viewing it as an all-powerful entity to be feared and respected, while others see it as a savior to be harnessed. Each tribe has its own form of religious propaganda, often intertwined with politics. Some radical groups preach the Bloom's absolute dominance, while others advocate for coexistence, creating a complex web of beliefs that shapes their unique society.
-
Mythologies and tales vary widely across the factions, each shaped by their unique histories and cultures. Among them, the Naturalists possess the deepest and richest mythologies, woven into every aspect of their way of life. Their stories are passed down through generations, detailing ancient spirits of the Bloom and the symbiotic relationship between their tribes and nature.
Atlas Peak, with its focus on technological supremacy and self-importance, has abandoned mythology altogether, believing in no higher powers beyond themselves. Their mastery of light and technology reinforces their belief in destined transcendence.
This is similar in Cascadia, where most dismiss mythology entirely, believing that science can explain all the mysterious events that have shaped their history. Others in Cascadia have myths that revolve around the sea's mysterious power, reflecting their reverence for the ocean and its depths. Onyx Industrial has fewer myths and focuses more on survival. Some Onyx residents claim to hear whispers from the desert, mysterious voices that seem to guide them through the harsh terrain. Others dismiss these as the madness of heat-induced delirium. Nevertheless, stories of desert spirits and mechanized heroes embody their resilience and determination.
The Biolands are filled with profound mysteries, mythologies, and tales, all waiting to be uncovered.
